This sturdy arrangement is based on a spiritual folk song that appeared in a number of American hymnals beginning in the mid 19th century. “Angels Hovering Round” appears in The Revivalist hymnal of 1868 and in The Sacred Harp as “Golden Streets.” This setting combines the first verse of the revival song and the two verses of “Golden Streets” in homage to the revival and shape note traditions.
