One of Ruggles’s most important works. Under its original title of invention for Orchestra, it so impressed Var?se with its counterpoint that Var?se suggested the new title Organum as a reference to the ancient style of counterpoint. Ruggles also prepared a 2-piano version along with the original orchestration. John Kirkpatrick arranged a solo piano version under Ruggles’s supervision. First published in New Music Edition in 1947, it is now published in this corrected and newly engraved edition, based on Kirkpartrick’s original manuscript with Ruggles’s editorial markings.
