Description
Zwilich’s 2019 CONCERTO FOR CELLO AND ORCHESTRA is now available for chamber ensemble. The solo cello part remains identical to the original concerto. The orchestral parts have been transcribed by the composer for the “Trout Quintet” scoring of Violin, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, and Piano, to capture the full richness of the orchestral palette with a practical and intimate chamber scoring. Zwilich has written several other major works for this “Trout” scoring and subsets of that instrumentation, making the new concerto transcription a perfect programming compliment. The 16-minute concerto is strongly influenced by blues, and was composed for and premiered by cellist Zuill Bailey.
