Ophee tells us that the very first arrangement of a Bach work for guitar was done in Moscow in 1834, and for the Russian 7-string guitar, at that! He also notes that the tuning in thirds facilitates the bariolage figurations throughout the music, while the G minor setting “allows us to play scale runs in campanela.” With assistance from Stanley Yates and Oleg Timofeyev, this edition also includes detailed fingerings, for those new to the 7-string guitar and its G open tuning.
