Description
Gioseffo-Hectore Fiocco (1703 – 1741) was a Belgian composer born in Brussels in 1703. His father, Pietro Antonio, was Italian, born in Venice in 1650. He moved to Brussels and whilst there held several ecclesiastical and musical posts including that of Director of the Royal Orchestra. He also composed and taught. Gioseffo, one of fourteen children, benefited from his father’s teaching, and also from that of his older brother, the composer and choirmaster, Jean-Joseph Fiocco. Gioseffo became choirmaster first of Antwerp Cathedral (hence the cover design) and then of Brussels Cathedral. He gained a wide reputation as a harpsichordist, and wrote much music for this instrument, as well as motets and other works. He was also a professor of Greek and Latin. He died in 1741 at the age of 38.
