Description

The writing of études for string instruments with an added second solo part is a well-established practice and constitutes a very valuable educational aid. In the second flute part for the études in Book 2 of Ernesto Köhler’s flute method presented in this edition, the Hungarian composer Péter Nógrádi has created many new playful elements and has not simply provided a mechnical semiquaver accompaniment. Nógrádi’s composition succeeds in clarifying the functional relationships in Köhler’s music and, by some surprising ideas, gives the two players the possibility of an enjoyable performance. Playing together with the second part demands great concentration and discipline and at the same time trains reactivity and score-reading, rewarding the conscientious student with a gratifying sense of achievement after a successful performance.
