Description

In spite of the absence of precise biographical information or knowledge of the dates and places of his birth or death, it is safe to assume that Giovanni Francesco Giuliani lived in the Toscana, at the turn of the 18th/19th century. His artistic activities were mainly concentrated in Florence, where he played the first violin at the Teatro Nuovo and was conductor at Teatro degli Intrepidi. The original manuscript of the composition published here is deposited in the library of the Seminario die Lucca. The series “Italian Baroque Music for Mandolin” wants to make known the works of Italian masters of the 18th Century, which have remained unpublished for a long time. The harpsichordist and conductor of the “Ensemble Baroque” in Turin, Lino Totaro has discovered and selected pieces for this series with a lively expression and inventiveness.
