Description

Vineta was a fabulously city near Koseros (Isle of Usedom) on the southern Baltic coast, which sunk. A sea girl had warned the wasteful and immoral city residents before that, but without success. Still today the bells shall be heared from the depths of the sea. The musical version of this theme by Franz Poenitz (1850-1912) is from 1905. “Vineta” is one of his strongest pieces, that Richard Strauss truly appreciated and conducted in the Royal Symphony Concert in the version for harp and orchestra. Thus resulted in an exceptional success of the composition.
