Euphonium Solo and Piano

Description

The arranger was searching for a major work by a significant composer when these pieces for violoncello and piano, composed by Robert Schumann in 1849, were discovered. To lessen the range and tessitura problems for the euphonium, the pitch was lowered a major second and short rests were inserted where the solo part consisted of non-essential harmonic material. A few idiomatic string passages were rewritten to fit euphonium technique. In addition, all or any part of this solo can be effectively performed by the advanced trombonist. Although the pieces vary in technical difficulty, all require sensitivity and endurance. Because of the lack of advanced euphonium literature from this period of music, the publisher feels that these fine pieces make a welcome and much needed addition to the brass repertoire.
