Description
The Belgian composer Guillaume Lekeu (1870-1894) is one of music’s might-have-beens, beginning to compose prolifically at age 15. Composed in 1891, Adagio for Strings, Op. 3, might have been intended as a tribute to Csar Franck, who had passed away that year. Vincent d’Indy conducted the first performance of the work at a commemorative concert after the composer’s premature death from typhoid fever.
