Description

In Prague for the first performance of his opera DON GIOVANNI, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) stayed with his friends Franz and Josepha Duschek. Five days after the premiere, he composed the concert aria BELLA MIA FIAMMA (RESTA, O CARA!) in C Major, K. 528, for Josepha, choosing a text based on the Greek myth of Proserpina that had been used a few years previously by the Neapolitan composer Niccol Jommelli. Titano, the mortal lover of the goddess, is sentenced to death. He sings of his grief, but hopes that she will find new love and accepts his fate with dignity. Josepha presented the work at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig on May 8, 1789, Mozart conducting. Instrumentation: 1.2.0.2 : 2.0.0.0: Str (4.4.3.3.3 in set): Solo Sop.
