Description

On the score of his cantata JAUCHZET GOTT IN ALLEN LANDEN (EXULT IN GOD IN EVERY LAND), BWV 51, J.S. Bach (1685-1750) wrote “For the 15th Sunday after Trinity and at any time”, indicating that he had composed it for any joyous occasion. It is his only religious cantata scored for solo soprano and trumpet. The first performance took place on September 17, 1730 in Leipzig. Gottfried Reiche, Bach’s principal trumpeter, would likely have played the virtuoso trumpet part. As traditional culture in Leipzig generally eschewed female voices at the time, the vocal solo might have been sung by a boy soprano. This vocal score edition was arranged by Bernhard Todt and is based on the Bach-Gesellschaft Ausgabe (Bach Society Edition). It was further edited by Gnter Raphael. Text is in the original German with an English translation by John Michael Diack. Reprint edition.
