Description
Frédéric Chopin’s extraordinary music has been central to the piano repertoire since it was first introduced, often by the composer himself, in the 1830s. This album, with music selected and edited by internationally known performer, teacher and clinician Phyllis Alpert Lehrer, is an ideal collection for the intermediate or early advanced player and includes performing suggestions, historical background and copious editorial insights. The music is drawn from a variety of the forms and genres that Chopin employed including selections from the Preludes, Op. 28, Nocturnes, Waltzes, Mazurkas and Polonaises. A nice balance has been struck between very familiar pieces (the A Major Prelude, the Waltz in C# Minor, Op. 64, No. 2) and less often performed pieces such as the Écossaise, Op. 72, and No.3.All in all, this is a collection that will be ideal for pianists with developing skills, both young and adult, and give all players access to the riches of Chopin’s melodic, harmonic and textural variety as a keyboard composer.
