Description

Between 1772 and 1780, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) composed his seventeen CHURCH (ORGAN) SONATAS, alternately known as the EPISTLE SONATAS. He worked for the Archbishop of Salzburg at the time and these sonatas served a liturgical purpose, functioning as interludes between Epistle readings during Mass. In addition to the fourteen sonatas for organ and strings (sans viola), he wrote three for an expanded orchestra which included oboes, horns, trumpets and timpani. This Kalmus edition, the second in a three-volume set, includes Sonata Nos. 9-11, 13, and 15. Instrumentation: Str (2.2.0.1.1 in set): Org (in sc).
