Steinway artist Joel Hastings has championed Carter Pann’s piano music, presenting an all-Pann concert, in which the composer has also performed. For Hastings and for himself, Pann has written this three-movement piano duo, a challenging and rhythmic romp. Movement titles impart a sense of each: I. Proposal in Positano; II. Intermezzo: “Dalle ma nabonu” (Song for the Dead) – ancient Tongan legend; III. Cab Calloway’s Cotton Club, Harlem 1933: “It’s all the Rag!” For advanced performers. Dur.: c.13′
