Description
Having made several attempts to write a piano concerto in the past, Robert Schumann (1810-1856) finally completed his CONCERTO FOR PIANO IN A MINOR, OP. 54, in 1845. The work was premiered in Dresden on December 4, with his wife Clara performing the solo part and Ferdinand Hiller at the baton. To fill the shoes of the first movement, he revised his Phantasie for piano and orchestra from 1841. Following a brief intermezzo, the finale brings the work to a propulsive conclusion. The concerto has since become one of the most performed in the repertoire. Instrumentation: Solo Pno: 2.2.2.2: 2.2.0.0: Timp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set).
