Description
PIANO CONCERTO NO. 20 in D minor, K. 466, is one of two piano concerti (the other being No. 24 in C minor) that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) composed in a minor key. Completing it on February 10, 1785, he performed the solo part for its premiere at the Mehlgrube Casino in Vienna the next day. He was unable to finish the last movement due to the time it took to supervise the copying of the parts beforehand. After his death, the concerto made an impression on the young Beethoven, who wrote two cadenzas which are frequently heard in modern interpretations of the work. Its restless energy and pathos made it popular with 19th century audiences. Instrumentation: 1.2.0.2: 2.2.0.0: Timp: Str (4.4.3.3.3 in set) [Solo Piano not included].
