Description
This popular 16th Century French carol exhibits the desired effect of a spirited dance when performed with sparkling rhythms and a brisk tempo. Many early Christmas carols had origins related to dancing, often merging celebratory lyrics with well known folk song melodies. All parts get to join in the fun as the theme moves through the ensemble and counterpoint lines are introduced. This arrangement is scored for 6 C flutes with optional piccolo, alto, and bass flutes plus handbells played by two ringers. If handbells are not available, this part could be played on piano, xylophone, or vibraphone.
