Description

Leshnoff has worked closely with violinist Charles Wetherbee (1st violinist with the Carpe Diem String Quartet) on several projects. Wetherbee was soloist for the premiere of Leshnoff’s Violin Concerto No. 1 and the Double Concerto for Violin and Viola, as well as in Distant Reflections. In this brief work, solo violin, piano (with percussive chords), and string ensemble are enhanced by an off-stage string quartet. Tension builds slowly to a memorable climactic moment, before subsiding again to stillness. Distant Reflections was recorded by Wetherbee and the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra (Markand Thakar, conducting) on the Naxos American Classics label.
