Description
The Spaniard Pablo de Sarasate (1844 – 1908) was a composing violin player, not a composer playing the violin. The salon society for which he performed asked for opera fantasias on popular themes, and Sarasate satisfied this fashionable trend. Still, he made himself a name as a composer. His fantasia on the “Zauberflöte” is the most demanding among all of those arrangements of equal significance that were written on famous Mozart melodies. And it was Sarasate’s last composition.
