Description

Pietro Mascagni (1863-1945) is best known for his short opera, Cavalleria Rusticana. First performed on May 17, 1890 at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome, it enthralled the audience so much that they demanded several encores. The opera frequently appears beside Pagliacci, another one-act verismo opera by his contemporary Ruggero Leoncavallo. The beautiful Intermezzo, here arranged for string orchestra by Gerald R. Doan, is famously heard in the title credits to Martin Scorsese’s film Raging Bull.
