Description

Oboe and pop music – how does that fit together? At least, there are some examples (e.g. Tanita Tikaram: “Twist in my sobriety”, 1988). In the book presented here, Bernd Holz, who plays the oboe with the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Cologne, has tried to lure the classic oboe player into pop music with compositions of his own. He does not call for perfect imitation – the pieces are rather meant to encourage improvisation or even pop music compositions of one’s own. The play-alongs have been kept so transparent in tone that players who are not yet proficient can follow the rhythm easily. “JUMP play along” offers a good opportunity to broaden one’s horizon both at music school lessons and when playing at home.
