The Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition was held for the second time in 2013. Its goal is to solicit the best in contemporary writing for piano, yet within reach of young piano students. 258 compositions were received from 49 countries and reviewed by a panel of five judges. Their discussion of the merits of 21 nominees was even made available for public consumption via live stream! Universal Edition is pleased to publish K2013, which includes the top three prize winners, along with an honorable mention, creating a marvelous new workbook in contemporary piano composition for advancing students.
