Description
The son of Franz Ries, Ferdinand Ries (1784-1838) studied with Beethoven, whom his father had taught and served the Master as a secretary and copyist for several years. His music is very much in the Beethoven vein, ie: stretching beyond the more classical style his father?s music represents. Larghetto, from the ?Violin Concerto, Op. 24? (edited by Franz Ries), is a typical example of a Beethoven-like slow movement, with an intense lyricism that is very appealing. It makes an excellent recital piece for an intermediate player with panache.
