Description
With a Guggenheim Fellowship, Ives Scholarship and the Prix de Rome behind him, Biscardi, one of the young American ‘wunderkind,’ has composed a work that he calls ‘ a celebration of the contrasting sonorities (incisive/lyrical) which are naturally and dramatically suggested by the piano.’ The title of this work, from the Italian, means ‘craft, business, occupation, whatever is necessary to one’s profession or art.’ The craft in MESTIERE is unmistakable. Biscardi has penned a bold, imaginative single-movement work flickering with both delicate and powerful moments. It was commissioned by Tulane University for the Festival of Piano Music, 1979. 1981 piano competition, studios, colleges, libraries, professional. Difficult.
