Description
The first of three compositions that famed French flute pedagogue Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941) wrote for the Paris Conservatoire’s concours, Nocturne et Allegro Scherzando (1906) is in a single movement with two distinct sections. Written to showcase a student’s ability to play both lyrically and technically, the Nocturne plays with mysterious impressionistic harmonies while the Allegro Scherzando contains more difficult technical passages.
