Description
German composer Carl Reinecke (1824-1910) composed this wind Octet, Op. 216 in 1892, though the reason is unclear. The four-movement work may have been written at the request of Paul Taffanel’s Socit de musique de chambre pour instruments vent. This octet shares the same instrumentation as Franz Lachner’s Op. 156 and Thodore Gouvy’s Op. 71: flute, oboe, two clarinets, two bassoons, and two horns.
