Program notes from Jason Eckardt: Paths of Resistance is both the most sophisticated realization of my compositional techniques that embed predetermined sets of ratios into the formal, metric, and rhythmic dimensions of a composition and the strongest link to my background as a metal guitarist. While there are stylistic differences between my compositions and metal, the aggressive character and virtuosic passage work is my music is directly influenced by shred. These technical demands, coupled, with the intense focus required of the performer, are inextricably linked to the gestures and aesthetics of the piece.
