A concert work by Daron Hagen written to celebrate Ralph Berkowitz’s 90th birthday, Piano Variations is a short (7-minute) concert work based on a four note motive derived from the initials of the composer’s and the dedicatee’s names. By turns driving, mysterious, vivacious and visionary, the seven variations in Piano Variations exploit the range and sonority of the piano with expertise and understanding. This is an excellent work for the experienced concert player or advanced student.
