Description
Together with his cousin, viola player Bernhard Romberg, Andreas Romberg (1767–1821) made concert tours through Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and France; in between he played the viola in the Concerts spirituels in Paris and became a member of the Bonn court orchestra as a violin player between 1790-93. In 1815, he suceeded Louis Spohr as court kapellmeister in Gotha. Among his numerous compositions we find operas, religious vocal music, four symphonies, three violin concerts and chamber music works. Stylistically, he resembles Haydn and Mozart. Romberg wrote several quintets for flute with strings. This new edition of the Quintet II B flat major op. 21 is based on the contemporary first print of Böhme publishers, Hamburg.
