In “The Golden Ring,” there are imaginatively descriptive tempo markings and a carousel sound. It is cheerful, with abundant accidentals and a faster middle section. “Narragansett Bay” is in C major and contains abundant accidentals, a few blocked chords, and a contrasting middle section. Predominant features of this piece include hemiolas, left hand motion, and an exclusively right hand melody.
