Description
According to Professor Peter Schickele, P.D.Q. Bach’s “SAFE” SEXTET has been so named because its manuscript was the only object left behind when burglars made off with the valuables from a hotel safe. The work makes use of many innovative sounds, such as a twangy, out of tune harp, rattling contrabassoon keys, and unexpected blues licks. Made up of several sections played without a break, the “SAFE” SEXTET highlights P.D.Q. Bach’s “unique” approach to musical pacing and drama, including a chaconne that transforms into a romantic 1950’s ballad.
