Description
SINFONIA FOR WINDS (SINFONIA FR BLSER) in G minor, A 509 was written by Gaetano Donizetti (1798-1848) in April of 1817, when the composer was 19-20 years old. Donizetti’s catalog includes more than a dozen works under the title "Sinfonia," with this particular early one composed in sonata form for flute, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 horns, and 2 bassoons already displaying the light, entertaining style that would become his trademark. This newly engraved version, edited by Douglas Townsend, includes detailed notes at the bottom of most pages, offering insight into the editorial decisions made in comparison to Donizetti’s autograph score.
