Description

Padre Antonio Soler (1729–1783) was a Spanish Catholic monk whose compositions span the late-Baroque and early-Classical periods. A student of Domenico Scarlatti, he wrote over 150 keyboard sonatas. The “Sonata in D Major” is in an improvisatory style typical of Spanish dance. The sonata features dance-like 16th-note rhythms, repeated notes characteristic of virtuoso guitar technique, and unique harmonies and modulations. This edition contains performance suggestions handed down to the editor from renowned pianist and Spanish-music interpreter Alicia de Larrocha.
