Description
With an autograph on the score dated “d. 14 Febr. 1824,” this Sonata for Viola and Piano in C minor would have been composed when Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) was fifteen years old, though it was never published in his lifetime. Amongst the most mature of his early chamber works, the sonata benefits from Mendelssohn’s own experience as an accomplished violinist and violist, resulting in a welcome addition to the limited viola repertoire from the Classical and Romantic eras.
