Edmund Rubbra (1901-1986) belongs to that strain of prolific British symphonists which flourished in the middle of the 20th century. Composed in 1958, his Sonata in C for Oboe and Piano, Op. 100, harnesses the oboe’s potential for melancholy lyricism and evokes a long-gone place and time.
