Description
One of the best-known German composers of the neo-classical persuasion, Harald Genzmer has followed the example of his teacher, Paul Hindemith, by providing playable and ingratiating music for most of the standard instruments. This sonata is an excellent example of his approachable style and expertise in writing music for wind instruments. In three movements, Sonata No. 3 opens with a moderately fast movement, offers a pensive and ornamentally lyric slow movement and concludes with a lively rondo-like finale which contains a brief reference to the main idea of the 2nd movement. Lasting about l5 minutes, Genzmer?s sonata is an ideal showpiece for a good young flutist.
