Giuseppe SammartiniPiccolo 1, Piccolo 2, Flute, Bass Flute, Alto Flute

Description

Sammartini wrote a large number of trio sonatas, which would have been performed by two soloists and basso continuo. This setting places the basso continuo part in the flute choir, removing the need for a keyboard instrument and allowing the similar tone color of a choir of flutes to provide an exquisite background for the beautiful solo lines. The solo lines are not beyond the abilities of most flutists so this work provides an opportunity to feature players who might not qualify to play more demanding solo lines. This is easy enough for high school flute choirs to perform, yet provides great opportunity for intonation work and balance which will challenge most adult flute choirs as well, all in a work which will delight audiences.
