Description

Ernst Krenek’s Sonata for Viola op. 92 no. 3 is published by Universal Edition for the first time since its 1954 Boelke-Bomart Publications edition. Krenek composed this sonata in 1942, four years after his emigration to the United States. In four movements, the work is an adaptation and expansion of the serial techniques invented by Arnold Schoenberg and the Second Viennese School. Krenek’s admiration for J.S. Bach pervades the sonata, especially in the fourth movement chaconne, which is an homage to Bach’s famous work for solo violin Partita No. 2 in d-minor. For advanced players.
