Description
In considering the great characters of Cervantes’ novel Don Quixote, Zyman has chosen flute, cello, and piano (three of his favorite instruments) to take us on the journey. Descriptive movements introduce Don Quixote, Pancho Sanza, Dulcinea, and the poor, exhausted horse Rocinante. The suite is infused with Sephardic and Middle East cues, as it considers the Spanish Golden Century. Suite de la Mancha was commissioned by flutist Marisa Canales, to commemorate the 400th anniversery of Certantes’ death. Appropriately, the suite was premiered by Trio Boehm (Canales, flute, Patrick Jee, cello, and Moises Fernandez Via, piano) during the Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato.
