Description
American composer and folk music specialist, Ruth Crawford Seeger (1901-1953), was a prominent voice in the emerging modernist aesthetic in the early 20th century, and she became a central member of a group of American composers known as the “ultramoderns”. Most of her compositional output took place during the 1920s and 1930s, with her turning towards the study of folk music in the late 1930s until her death in 1953. Her music had an influence on later composer, particularly Elliott Carter. The late Suite for Winds (1952) has been edited by Kurt Stone. Woodwind quintet.
