Description
Gabriele or Pietro Leone (also called Leone of Naples) was born in the first half of the 18th century in Naples and died in Paris after 1789. We do not know much about his life. As a fact, he gave a spectacular concert in London in 1762 after which he was praised ‘mandolin virtuoso’ by the press. Moreover, he wrote a method for the mandolin, published in Paris in 1770, which helped to a great extent in making this instrument popular. The edition presented here is based on the manuscript in the library of the Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi” in Milan.
