John Darwall’s hymn, based on Psalm 148, has been in use since the late 18th century. Commonly known as Rejoice, the Lord Is King, the hymn takes on a strong march cadence in Clarke’s transcription. This “theme and variations” ends with a solo reed blowing out the melodic line in triplets, picked up by the pedals in the final measure.
