Description
Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) composed his Two Norwegian Airs (Two Nordic Melodies; Zwei Nordische Weisen), Op. 63 in 1895. The first movement, an at-times melancholy and warm orchestration called I folketonestil (In Folk Style), was built on a melody provided to him by Fredrik Due, a Norwegian diplomat to Paris to whom the work is dedicated. The second is called Kulok og Stabbelten (Cow-call and Peasant Dance) and is more festive than the first, though still in a stately fashion. Instrumentation: String Orchestra (8-8-5-5-5 in set).
