Previously unpublished, Poulenc’s Valse has a fascinating history. Written in 1951, the work exists in the form of an autographed manuscript incorporated into a drawing by the painter, Richard Chanlaire. The drawing is based upon the motif of a silk scarf created by the fashion designer, Pierre Balmain. Valse is a charming work, containing many of the characteristic features that we love about Poulenc’s music.
