Description
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) wrote these short Sixteen Waltzes (Sechzehn Walzer), Op. 39, in 1865, dedicated to the music critic Eduard Hanslick and written as a tribute to Vienna, Brahm’s newly adopted city. Originally written for piano four hands, Brahms also arranged two different versions, one difficult and one easier, for solo piano. All three versions proved popular when published in 1866. This edition for violin and piano was transcribed by Paul Klengel and published in 1911.
