William Albright’s “Whistler Nocturnes” pay homage to, react to, and commune with three paintings by James McNeil Whistler. This is a highly advanced organ solo in the manner of the composer’s seminal Organbooks from the 1970s. Unavailable via publication for 30 years, this edition is a collaboration with organist and scholar Douglas Reed, who has recorded the entire Albright output for the King of Instruments and was a personal friend of the composer, who passed away in 1998.
