Description
In this piece, a melodic structure which consists of certain intervals is compressed to such an extent that only quarter tones of the melody are left – and afterwards, it is stretched in such a way as to make the intervals recognizable again. The title “zoom” is meant to illustrate this compressing and stretching process. This piece requires new playing techniques which result in unusual sound qualities. “Zoom” was the winner of the 1st International Competition for Composition and Interpretation organized by the German Flute Society and was part of the European Flute Festival in March 1999. The composer (born in 1966) studied conducting and composition in Cologne. He is a founding member of the group of composers SCHISMA. As a conductor, he is mainly working with 20th century music.
