During the rise of broadcast radio orchestras, a new style of writing was needed for the new medium. In one of her contributions, Tailleferre’s four comic operas each imitate the style of major influences on the art form. As contributor Morgane Paquette points out, there is a baroque opera after Rameau, a verismo opera in the style of Charpentier, a romantic opera (Boieldieu or Rossini), and a light operetta reminiscent of Offenbach. All four operas are now included under one cover in score form.
