In this musical gift to the cellist Elinor Frey, Stucky creates a challenging solo piece from the letters of her first name, in time honored tradition. The following seven short variations on that theme are, however, pure Stucky, as he crafts a dialogue between the theme notes and contrasting combinations of non-theme notes. The whole is artfully edited by Frey, herself, who first recorded the piece on Yarlung Records.
